Grooming Tips

We could not start our grooming tips without introducing some general information about men’s skin. Our wish is to allow you to get a better understanding of your own skin and how its metabolism works to finally help you to make a better product selection when you will visit our e-boutique.

So, did you know that as an average, skin renews itself in about 28 days, the time it takes for a new skin cell to work its way from the innermost layer of skin to the surface?

But all along our life the exfoliation process slows causing a build up of dead skin cells that help to develop fine lines and wrinkles. With less and less new skin cells coming to the surface it leaves your skin looking dull and tired.

Everyday men’s skin produces sebum and perspiration which result in an oilier and more acid skin making it a perfect environment for the bacteria to cause blemishes and make male’s skin shine. On the top of these natural processes come razor burns, the external effects of impurities due to pollution and the absorption of chemicals through our lifestyles excess.

While it is impossible to reverse the ageing process completely, there are ways to slow it down by adopting a simple daily routine.

1- Wash and Exfoliate

A good skincare routine starts with a facial wash product. Your face should be washed twice a day to control excess oil and remove impurities. Before going to bed, wash your face again to remove surface pollution, dirt and grime.

Then use twice a week and exfoliating scrub, preferably during your shower and before shaving to eliminate dead cells, brightens your complexion and facilitates cellular renewal. A weekly massage routine is a perfect way to prevent the appearance of in-grown hair or irritation and to prepare your skin for a gentle razor glide.

2 – Pre-shave and Shave

Preparation is key to achieve a great shaving. Always shave during or after a hot shower. The hot water helps to loosen up pores, cleanses the skin and softens hairs for a closer shave. After just few minutes the warm water and steam will have caused the hairs on your chin to expand - making them softer and much easier to shave.

Before shaving, lightly rub a pre-shave oil to protect the skin and to soften the beard, allowing the razor to glide easily. Pre-shave oil plays a crucial role in reducing nicks, cuts and irritation. Start by massaging the neck using a circular motion, working upwards over the whole area to be shaved. At this step don’t rinse! Just apply your shaving cream, gel and foam on top and don’t worry as this drop of oil won’t leave your skin looking greasy!

Now that your skin has been washed and prepared you can apply your cream or foam. If you are uninitiated with the use of a shaving brush, be aware it may be worth trying this technique as it helps generate a rich and warm lather that soften and lift the beard.

When you shaved always go in the direction of growth of your bristles to prevent in-growing hairs occurring. Do not put a great amount of pressure as it will not change the outcome of the shave so long as the blade is clean and not overly used.

3- Nourish and Moisturise.

The last step of our daily regime is to nourish and moisturise your skin. After shaving you should not apply an old fashion aftershave as they contain alcohol that have a drying effect on skin. It is better to use an alcohol-free aftershave balm or gel to soothe, refresh and regenerate the skin and to help close the pores.

When you are not shaving it is also really important to moisturise your skin on a daily basis as it helps promote hydration, skin cell regeneration, healing, and prevent damaging effects from external forces and weather conditions that lead to premature wrinkles and fine lines.

This men dedicated skincare regime will not take you more than 5 minutes every day.
