Men’s lifestyle and the way men behave has always been a topic. So let’s talk about what it means to be a man in 2011.

Men are traditionally described as being boring, predictable and irresponsible. It is also common to hear or to read that we are not a talkative specie, that we are showing stoicism when it comes on board to express and share our feelings. But if we look at the last decades I must say that those descriptions are out-dated caricatures and antiquated clichés.

The truth is that modern men have been able to involve with there times considering for example the simple fact that more and more men fancy to become house-husbands. Up to fifty years ago it was traditionally assumed that men were the breadwinner whether they like it or not and we know that for most of them it was hard life. So it is easy to understand than lots of men have grown up with a straight example of the father figure.

But then the booming of the western economy and the whole changes that this wealthy context created gave us more liberty and so, since then we had had to reinvent ourselves and now we can assume and enjoy the fact than there never been a better time to be a men.

If money still remains the alpha and omega of our survival the importance of our job is not our only priority. Surveys show that today our top priorities are to being a good partner and a good father, with job coming just third. This is actually considers as the wider shift in society over the past few years without considering the fact that nearly 50 % of men are making their fair share of domestic chores.

Another important change that surveys brought up is that more than half of men express their disagreement about the use of violence. There is a greater self-awareness from men about their instinct to manage issues aggressively and it is something they said they really want to improve.

So, even if we must be humble regarding our evolution and progress it is fair to say than men are wishing to become better and they are not just talking about it, they learn and they act. We act and need more time.
